Powers Trend Lab was founded in Fall 2025 at the University of Michigan to support and advance applied and academic research in trend studies.

In our lab, we explore contemporary and historical trends, practice and innovate trend methods, and expand how to think about trends in fields like communication, media studies, sociology, politics, and marketing.

We are currently at work on two academic papers—one about trends and identity, and the second about trend longevity. We have also launched our trend newsletter, Culture 101, which is aimed at college professors.
